It was a dark Sunday morning in Italy when the news services announced that Franco Ballerini, ex-professional, former dual Paris-Roubaix winner and current Italian national coach, had died as result of injuries sustained in a rally accident. Matt Conn offers his words in condolence for the great loss.

Yes, this is the right place, the Ballerup Super Arena, I heave Franco forward as the opening one hour chase gets the last six day of the 2009/10 season under way. Once again, Ed Hood is on the scene, working hard, and doing his best to take us inside that one of a kind world known as a Six Day.

When the K-Mart Classic of West Virginia stormed through the state in the mid-90s, it opened awareness as to just how great the bike riding is in this once hidden jewel. I've ridden all over the US and Europe at this point, but in my experience, some of the best riding in the world can be found in the hills and hollers near Spencer, West Virginia.
USA Cycling announced today the fourth edition of the USA Cycling Professional Tour, which is highlighted by an expanded calendar and two first-time UCI events. While Garmin-Transitionsandrsquo; Dave Zabriskie captured the individual title in 2009, the powerful Columbia-HTC team edged fellow U.S. based Pro Tour squad, Garmin for the team title. This year some of the world's top riders will prepare to compete in any number of the ten USA Cycling Pro Tour events in the U.S.
The 2010 USA Cycling Collegiate Road season kicked off last weekend in Tucson with the University of Arizona Criterium, the year's first collegiate cycling race. The season will begin in earnest across the country in the weeks that follow, but this early season start was a great preview of the excitement to come.
In response to a request from the UCI that radios be banned in all national calendar races, the USCF Board of Trustees met and amended the rule regarding the use of race radios in all USA Cycling sanctioned road and track races. Radios will now be banned in all USA Cycling road and track races.
USA Cycling announced today the hiring of Management Cycling Prof, S.L. to manage the organization's Women's Endurance Program. Led by Director Sportif Manel Lacambra, the Spanish-based company will direct the national governing body's women's development efforts from the USA Cycling European Residence Center in Lucca, Italy.
Expectations are high for British star Mark Cavendish as he kicks off his 2010 season at the Tour of Qatar.
